JCW Mini

I am loving summer! I have a different convertible booked just about every week. They are my favorite and we have so many great ones to choose from. This week I had the John Cooper Works Mini Convertible in 'Midnight Black Metallic' and with a beautiful Tuscan Beige Interior. The MSRP is aprox. $44,440 for the base model and includes things like automatic traction and stability control, heated windshield washer jets and heated exterior mirrors (great for Canadian winters!) , 6-speed manual transmission, 17 inch wheels, fully adjustable steering column and of course, the JCW Mini Cooper S tuning kit. My test vehicle for the week has a price tag of $47,820. It has few tasty upgrades like leather, Hi-Fi sound system and chrome line interior. This is the first Mini I have had a chance to drive since I started to review cars 3 years ago - and this has been a great way to experience Mini at its best! This version has a 1.6 liter, 4 cylinder 16V engines putting out 208hp. I had only driven a few kilometers when I could feel what all the excitement is around this car. It is agile, sporty, compact and unique. The rigid body gives you amazing road holding capability and the multi-link rear suspension and single link front axel ensure that your drive feels stable and corners are smooth. I will be honest; I don't like the dashboard look or design at all! The big round speedometer in the middle of the dash, the strange 'toggle' type switches for the windows and the round air vents is just not my taste at all. But the key here is that there is nothing else on the road that looks like this - and I know other people will love it. But that being said, the chrome lined interior is a gorgeous accent, the seats are firm and comfortable and the elliptical door ring gives it a nice touch of class. Room is at a minimum. It feels roomy upfront with wide seats and ample head room. The back seat is not that usable. I had a chance to get 4 friends in this car and they were not happy at all to be stuck in the back. I don't mind this though, I am single and love small cars. I rarely need the space so I find a car like this Mini to be fantastic for city living. Just enough space to put groceries or small purchases and small enough to zip around city traffic and so easy to park.

I wouldn't consider buying this car, but it is only because of the dash design. If you want to be unique and have a fantastic driving 4 seat convertible, this JCW Mini is worth taking for a test drive.
