I was born in Calgary, AB AKA Cowtown, home of
the Calgary Stampede and Exhibition. My younger
sister, Tara, and I had a pretty normal child hood. At
least I think it was normal. I started dancing
when I was very young – I think I could dance
before I could walk! Ballet was my passion and I
performed a few times in The Nutcracker. When
I was in grade 4 we moved up to Inuvik, NWT. Yup
you heard right, Inuvik, is about 200km NORTH of
the Artic Circle and it was SO cold. The
native said that it wasn't actually cold until
you could spit, and it would freeze before it hit
the ground. It as an interesting
life lesson as white people were the minority. Despite
the lack of sun and freezing cold days in the winter,
and the sun never setting and crazy mosquitoes in
the summer – I made a lot of friends and actually
enjoyed it! I missed my dancing terribly though
and was very happy to leave in 1989 to spend a year
in Medicine Hat. Then the family ended up back
in Calgary just in time for me to start grade 8 and
get back into dancing, but this time I did ballet,
jazz, hip hop, modern, African, you name it – I
did it! This is also when I discovered acting – in
grade 8 I starred as Lizzy Borden in our school play
called "Good Bye Miss Lizzie Borden" I
was hooked! In high school I instantly became
a drama and band geek and still found time to dance. I
played the flute, piano and lived in the drama department
every extra moment I had. I got to cheerlead
for the Calgary Stampeders on the Outriders Cheerleading
Squad and was actually on the field in Winnipeg when
they won by only 2 points against Hamilton. What
an incredible rush! I entered the
Miss Calgary Pageant for the first time in 1998 and
placed 3rd – But the stubbornness in me I had
to enter again and became Miss Calgary 2000. I
went to the Miss Canadian Universe pageant and placed
in the top ten!
After high school life
just got in the way. I started working at West
Jet Airlines and suddenly auditions, dance classes
and all the things I used to love fell to the side. I
was making money, regular money, and I forgot about
my dreams. In 1998 my dad passed away and it changed my life. I quit
my job, rented out my condo and spent a year back packing in Australia. I
realized that life is short – I knew what I wanted to do with my life and
somewhere along the way I had forgotten. So I moved to Vancouver, got a
part time job, an agent and started going to auditions. It was a scary
thing but I knew in my heart this was the only way I would ever truly be happy. Only
a few months into things I got a call from my agent's assistant asking
me if I knew anything about cars. That was a tough question: I knew more
than a lot of women, but I knew there was a lot of information out there that
I had no clue about. I loved going to car shows, helping my dad work on
his old '68 Chevy and I knew that one day I would own a Lamborghini (The
only reason I learned how to drive a manual was so I could have a purple Diablo
one day) So I went to the audition and, as they say "The rest is
history"! I am now the co-host of a national TV show and get to work everyday
with Zack Spencer – things can't get much better than that. Oh,
and did I mention that I get paid to test
drive cars?!
