Here’s what you need to know for your tanning at SunScape:
1. We do not have any beds that use magnetic ballasts. Our beds use only electronic and choke ballasts which do not present any of the mentioned health risks.
2. All of the lamps used in our beds emit enough UVB to produce more than sufficient amounts of Vitamin D – a minimum of approx. 20,000 IU per session.
3. Dr. Oz speaks of ‘high pressure’ lamps that only emit UVA and he is correct in that they do not offer the benefits that he’s speaking of in reference to tanning beds. However, in the USA high pressure lamps normally only emit UVA. The lamps used in SunScape’s so-called “high pressure” bed do have enough UVB to produce a lot of Vitamin D in just one session.

Last Sunday I got a phone call from my sister that my grandpa went into hospital and was not going to make it. I hoped on a plan and arrived into Calgary late that night.
My mom and I spent the night with him at the hospital and it was a very difficult time. The whole family got together the next day and we all had a good visit. Grandpa was back to his grumpy self and was harassing the nursing staff. This was a very good sign.
It made me thankful that we had a chance to visit and it NOT be around my grandpas DEATH. Though it sucks that he went into the hospital, but our Monday together was nice because he was ok. We is it that we always wait until its too late? Why is it that when someone dies we all go to the funeral and regret that we never said good bye, didn’t see them in over a year?!
I always tell people that my father’s gift to my life was his death. I remember the last time I spoke with him – I told him that I loved him. He said he loved me too. That memory will stay with me forever. And because of it, I remember to tell the people close to me who much they mean to me at every chance I get.
We can joke about the only sure think in life is death and taxes but seriously – we are all going to die one day. It doesn’t matter what you believe religiously or spiritually. It doesn’t matter what color your skin or how old you are. We are all dying. And none of us have any idea when it will happen.
If someone told you that you had a month to live – would you change your life? Would you have regrets, who would you call to say “I love you”? Would you suddenly do things that you had always dreamed of doing? Its crazy!
My grandpa George died on Thursday Dec 8, 2011. – He was in a lot of pain in the hospital. He had injured his back, his kidneys where failing and he was having troubles breathing. I think his heart failed. I don’t remember what my mom told me – kinda went into a fog. But really it doesn’t matter. He is in a better place. We will all miss him so very much. He and my grandmother celebrated 60 years of marriage in August.
They had a family; my mom was one of their kids. Because of him, I am here today. Because of my grandfather I had 35 years of great memories at Christmas, Easter, birthdays and summer holidays.
My sister made a wonderful point the day he died – in one ward of the hospital, people were dying and on another ward, only a few metres away, babies were being born. Without death there would b no life.
As my friend Darryl on facebook said “Death sucks!” but, I commented “…It makes us appreciate life, and life is beautiful.”
Think for just a moment how your life would change today if you only a month left to live. Get off your ass and go live! I hate to be the one to break it to you- we are all dying. In less than a month from now, you could get hit by a car, mugged on the street or get diagnosed with cancer.
Don’t get me wrong – I plan to live to be 103, but its not really up to me. When I die, I want people to say that I LIVED. Lived a life full of fun, adventure, risks, laughter, family and dreams.
Phew! what a quick trip – i left rainy vancouver on Wednesday and was home late last night. It was about 6 in Toronto, no snow and it actually felt warm to me. I brought the only winter jacket i own, which happens to be my Auto123.com jacket – they are all in Montreal and know what REAL cold is like! I really enjoy coming out every year for this because i get to see the rest of the auto123.com team! They are a bit of trouble makers sitting around, drinking beer, eating junk food and chatting about -cars! Thank GOD i am officially in ‘off’ season – i didn’t join them with the beer, but car talk i love and i had a burger and fries with a side of mayo. Good times in Toronto!

WOW. yup – wow is about all i have to say. I have taken a week ‘easy’, enjoyed some good food and had a chance to process everything.
YES – of course i am upset that i didn’t come in first. It almost seems like a silly question – yet i have been getting asked it daily! I don’t think anyone is happy when they don’t win?! The reality of this sport is that you don’t know who is going to show up and HOW they will show up. The tope 3 women looked AMAZING. And now i know how i can improve – I have requested feedback from the head judge and with that, Bert and i can get a game plan together for my next competition.
I know that my lat spread/ back pose was a big deal – i just couldnt seem to get my left lat to ‘pop’ the same as my right so instead of going up looking uneven, i did NOT get my back as wide as it can be. The other girls also had fuller shoulders – I will know for sure when I get my feedback.
DTV – we are wrapping up the first half of the season. A few days of small piece here and there but no exciting cars or anything all too stressful. I am driving the Mazda5 right now and love the functionality of if – i am going out with the girls on Saturday night and will see how 5 grown women fit in it! stay posted for that review – LOL!
I am going to go home to Calgary for Christmas – looking at vehicles right now- its crazy, i know but i enjoy the drive through the mountains. Bert has never done it. yes, we need to be extra careful but if we are not in a hurry and are prepared fully, i think this will be the best Christmas ever.
WOW – what an amazing day Saturday was. Friday afternoon I got ‘sprayed’ with dark brown tanning so dark I looked like I was no longer caucasian. THe darker your skin on stage the better. It shows off muscles definition better and when you get under the strong stage lights you look almost normal. The Athelets meeting was on Friday at 6pm and there were over 160 competitors from body builders to bikini. I was very thankful that this was not my first competition because it could have been incredibly overwhelming.
Up on Saturday morning at 530am to do my hair and make-up and was back at the theatre by 830am. Pre-judging started with mens body building and several hours later they started with figure short. Being 5’7 I was in the med-tall class with 16 other women. I got pumped up and had my purple suit ‘bikini bited’ to my bum. This is a glue that comes out in a little roller and keeps your bikini bottom from riding up and giving you a wedgy. What a great invention.
My number was #100. I got first call out and the group of 5 ladies i was being compared to was amazing. We did our quarter turns for comparison four times! My muscles were shaking from having to hold the poses for so long.
Coming off stage i knew I had a tough competition. Three other girls had great muscle density and condition. I knew it would be a battle for top 3. Bert, my trainer agreed. He gave me some feedback to open my lats a bit more and said he thought I was looking good for a 3rd place result. We both agreed to stay focused until the night show and keep it in my mind to go for first!
In the evening I was called out in the top 5 and ended up placing fourth. I am incredibly happy to have done so well against 16 other women, but a bit disappointed that it was not enough to qualify me to compete in BCs next year.
I ate pizza and cheesecake – my favourite foods – for dinner on saturday night and all day sunday. I have emailed the BCABB to request feedback and today am not sure what to do next. With feedback I can decide with the help of my trainer how to best move forward. I was back doing cardio this morning and was excited to have blue berries with my oat meal.
This is not over – I looked the best i have ever looked. For me, that is a good thing. I busted my ass for 13 weeks and i was confident going on stage that I showed up 100% for me. I will keep you posted on my plan for the future.
